Tell us about your life before you started Insanity. How did you feel about yourself and your body?

The last few years have been ANYTHING but easy. My fiance was killed serving in the military, followed shortly after by my grandmother, who had been like my mother. Though I was able to complete college, finding a job was impossible. When I did find a job, I was laid off and forced to relocate just to pay my bills. To top this all off, there were more and more deaths and diseases cropping up in my family. Though I thought I was handling it all well, my body was starting to prove otherwise. Weight was piling on and I gave up caring about what I looked like. I ate whatever and whenever I wanted. And exercise was not a top priority. I tried taking up running a few times but I never really saw much change in my body, which was even more frustrating. I blamed my lack of ambition on everything from the cold weather in NY keeping me inside to genetics. Nothing seemed to be going well; I had given up. I told myself I just wasn’t meant to be happy and I certainly would never be skinny.

What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?

I was feeling hopeless, helpless, and enjoying chocolate a bit too much. I am a teacher and found myself unable and unwilling to keep up with the kids. My formerly cheerful nature had withered away and I would have preferred to sleep my days away. My clothes didn’t fit and I was settling into a slight depression. I was at an all time low. It was about this time I met my coach. He showed me some before and after pictures and I argued the effectiveness (or lack thereof) of DVD workouts. But after reflecting on my current depressed state and increasingly sagging stomach, I figured it couldn’t get any worse. Running wasn’t doing the trick and I couldn’t afford a gym membership. Not that I would have gone anyway. It seemed this coach-guy might have a point. I had to decide how I was going to live my life from here on out: disgusting or dynamite!

What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning Insanity? How did Insanity and Beachbody® help you overcome that challenge?

Starting the program was my biggest challenge. I had never done anything like this before. And every day I would tell myself that was the day I would start. but then I would work all day, work a few hours at night, come home, and just want to go to bed. I kept making great excuses for myself. I thought, tomorrow is another day. But tomorrow never seemed to come, Every day was a new excuse. I read on the message boards some posts about being motivated (because I convinced myself that if I was reading about working out, that was almost as good as actually doing it.) One day I stumbled on a post that suggested just trying to start out with 10 minutes of the workout and if I still had energy and felt good, then keep going. If not, than return to the couch. Easy enough, I thought, After all, I was running out of excuses. I put the DVD in, got through the warm up and actually felt energized. Shaun T was exactly what I needed to keep going. From this day on, I looked forward to working out.

Why did you choose Insanity?

I chose insanity because Shaun T sounded intense. It seemed hard. But I was prepared for “hard,” I had been dealing with hard situations for years. I figured if I was going to try this, I should do it right and really push myself. Insanity looked, well, insane. And it was. But that’s exactly what I needed. A program that could match the crazy life I had been living. A program that could keep up with me.

What in particular did you like about Insanity?

I love that Insanity always seemed to be something different. Though I know I completed the same Insanity DVDs several times, I was never bored. It never became tedious or mundane because I was always pushing myself a little harder or a little farther that the previous time. I also really love that I was kept busy, moving from one move to another quickly. Time flew by every time. Often, I was left checking my DVD player to be sure it hadn’t skipped a chapter. Even when I didn’t feel like working out, I knew if I turned it on for 5 minutes, I’d be hooked again. Shaun T (Insanity trainer) has a great way of encouraging people along the way. He is really good at helping you to stay focused and “dig deeper” which is important when trying to perform your very best. What was best of all, I love proclaiming “Yeah, I did Insanity!”

Describe the results you achieved with Insanity. Which achievements are you proud of?

Because of Insanity I feel so healthy in so many ways. I make wise choices in everything I eat and do. Through my Beachbody- inspired diet and amazing workout routine, I am a healthy person. I have more energy that I have ever had and my perkiness is back. The kids have trouble keeping up with me now! I even took on the position as the cheerleading coach for our school! And now I am training to run a marathon! Things I never thought possible or even considered! And I love the way that I look for the first time in my life. I never dreamed that I would feel comfortable in a bathing suit. I never minded wearing them, as long as I had a cover-up nearby. But now, I am proud of my body. I don’t mind walking the beach in my bikini. I also like to get dressed in the morning because I like the way my clothes fit. I am happy, healthy, and feel like a new person. I love telling people about my transformation with Insanity and helping them make a positive change in their lives, knowing how much better they will feel too!

How has your life changed since completing Insanity?

I have never been someone who was comfortable in clothes. I loved the new trends that allowed me to wear oversized shirts that masked my least-favorite area, my stomach. Shopping was fun but only when I could buy shoes- they always fit. I always envied the girls at the beach that just seemed to be born with abs and tight butts. I never in a million years thought I was worthy of such things, And I figured that even if I was capable, I was getting too old to try. Boy was I wrong. I spent a week at a beach resort with people at a fitness conference and had no problem wandering around in a tiny bikini. I went to a beach birthday party and was thrilled with the compliments and admiration of my friends. Even better was being able to tell them Beachbody helped me look and feel this incredible. Not only do I look better but I have confidence to try SO many new things- hiking, dancing, rockclimbing… I feel amazing, fearless, and free.

How did participating in a Challenge Group help you reach your goals? How did your group support you and keep you accountable?

In the past, I was able to make excuses for myself. I was able to pass each day off as just another day. I was able to tell myself tomorrow is another day and move on. Once I started communicating regularly with my Challenge Group, I had someone to be accountable. In fact, I had 5 people to be accountable to. sharing this experience with others not only kept me on track, but it also helped me through slumps and days I felt it wasn’t all worth it. we were able to share tips, motivational words, and general support throughout. We all made plans to check in with one another daily. We had appointments with one another which helped us keep our appointments with ourselves. There is not reason to cheat ourselves- especially with that kind of support!

How did Shakeology® support your transformation? What are the greatest benefits?

As a teacher, there is an endless supply of candy and kid food at your finger tips. This is a problem when you are craving junk food and sugar. I needed something to help me break this cycle. Shakeology played a pivotal role in my transformation. As soon as I started using it, not only did my energy level increase, but my skin looked healthier and I started to feel more balanced. It was a great addition to my new, healthy way of life. I used to be guilty of skipping breakfast, thinking it was a good way to cut calories. But I began taking a shake with me for my morning commute. It gave me the energy I needed to start my day while keeping me going until my mid morning snack or lunch.It even kept me from reaching for the chocolate and refined sugars I once craved. Besides helping me feel better, I instantly started losing weight when I incorporated Shakeology into my diet and fitness plan.

What tips or tools did you find most useful? What made them so instrumental?

The TeamBeachbody site is one of the most useful sites for me. It really makes me feel like I am part of somehting bigger than myself. I love seeing so many people change their lives in a positive way. Every day I looked forward to opening the TeamBeachbody site to see what was new on the homepage. Whether it was an interesting recipe list or a tip from one of the trainers, it kept me interested. I loved always having something new to explore. I also really liked all of the transformation stories. It reminded me that anything is possible. Everyone looks so great in their after pictures, I wanted that feeling too! The WOWY supergym was also helpful. If I wasn’t feeling motivated, I would log an exercise and set a start time. That way, I really had an appointment I couldn’t miss!
